The Gift of Wellness: What to do if you're struggling to sleep during lockdown

Today, I want to talk about Sleep; why it’s so important and what we can do to improve our bedtime routines, as so many of us have been and continue to struggle to sleep with the additional stresses brought by Covid-19.

Sleep is just as important as healthy eating and exercise...

Sleep is one of the most important factors when it comes to our well-being.  It affects the way we feel, and our mental and physical health.

Here are just some of the ways sleep is so amazing for us:

  • It increases our sex drive and fertility

But so many of us have been suffering from poor sleep...

With an increase in stress, anxiety, screen time and working from home over the last few months, it’s not a surprise that a lot of us have been struggling to sleep well during lockdown.

In fact, 1 in 3 of us suffer from poor sleep.

Anxiety and stress have been one of the major contributing factors to people getting less and poorer quality sleep over the last few months, as well as more vivid dreams.

Even as lockdown starts to ease, we should stay mindful of the fact that a lot of us are experiencing anxiety around having to go out more, going back to work, sending our kids back to school, or ongoing financial difficulties. 

This poses so many risks to our health in the long run; regular poor sleep increases the risk of serious medical conditions such as obesity, heart disease and diabetes.

So just like we exercise and eat well to stay healthy, we need to be paying as much attention to our bedtime routine and what we can do to improve the quality of our sleep.
